The biggest update of the month
📰 What we’re watching: The Chiliz Group unveiled Socios Equity Token, an asset class that aims at to give fans and investors minority equity stakes in professional sports teams. Chiliz is partnering with Securitize to build the infrastructure behind this offering.
📰 Why it matters: Chiliz is essentially trying to bring a portion of the sports market onchain with this effort. The network will buy minority stakes in participating sports clubs, then offer eligible investors tokenized versions of these stakes via Socios Equity Token.
Socios Equity Token will live alongside Chiliz’ existing Fan Tokens, which grant voting, rewards and experience.
Chiliz said Socios will lead relationships across the sports industry and its onchain community, while Securitize will manage securities issuance, investor onboarding, ownership records, and transfer controls.
📰 The bigger picture: Club ownership has historically been private, and stakes have been mostly been only available to organizations with deep pockets or high-net-worth individuals with the right connections.
By tokenizing its stakes, Chiliz aims to open distribution to two groups: fans seeking a financial relationship with the teams they support, and institutional investors seeking exposure to sports.
The Socios Equity Token is under development currently, and is expected to launch on Securitize's European Trading and Settlement System. The companies did not say when the product will be launched.
Highlighting the Chiliz Ecosystem
FanCup launched a platform that lets users stake Fan Tokens or SOL on matchups between Copa Libertadores clubs, which is specifically for South American teams. The matchups are AI-simulated and aren’t tied to actual matches, which allows the platform to run different events every minute.
Kayen Finance launched stCHZ, a liquid staking token for CHZ that lets users earn yield while still being able to use their position to make trades, lending, or other DeFi uses.
The protocol also migrated its Fan Token liquidity pools on Chiliz Chain to V3 of its protocol, introducing concentrated liquidity, limit orders and tiered fees. These changes are intended to make it easier for liquidity providers to set a price range instead of supplying across a full curve for less aggressive price movements on swaps.
The following Fan Tokens are now available on Solana: Vasco da Gama, Sao Paolo FC, Flamengo, SE Palmeiras, and Fluminense.
