The biggest update of the month

📰 What we’re watching:  Chiliz have announced that the Olympique de Marseille ($OM) Fan Token will launch on October 14th. Meanwhile, Turkish exchange Paribu will act as the official $OM partner in Turkey.

📰 Why it matters: Similar to other clubs’ Fan Tokens, holders of Olympique De Marseille’s Fan Tokens will be able to participate in binding club polls, redeem signed and match-worn merchandise, and visit the club’s training centre.

For this specific Fan Token, while there will be a Fan Token Offering on Socios.com, Paribu will act as the club's regional partner. Paribu is a cryptocurrency exchange based in Istanbul that lets users deposit and withdraw Turkish lira directly through partner banks. Users can buy the token on a platform they already use in order to reduce user onboarding friction.

This direct distribution reduces the steps a new user would have to take to enter the Chiliz ecosystem. Instead of relying on fans to sign up for a whole new platform, the integration puts the Olympique de Marseille Fan Token in front of Paribu's existing user base and meets users where they are.

📰 The bigger picture: Back in July, Socios Europe, the Chiliz-run platform that lists and facilitates trading of Fan Tokens, became a MiCA-authorized crypto-asset service provider.

That authorization has opened the path to clubs like Olympique de Marseille for tokenizing and issuing assets, like Fan Tokens, to their fans in the continent.

Highlighting the Chiliz Ecosystem

  • Chiliz removed 13.46M CHZ (about $182,800) from circulation in September through buybacks funded by 10% of Fan Token proceeds. Token burns are designed to decrease the token's supply over time, with the amount removed tied to how much activity Fan Tokens generate throughout the month. Chiliz has burned a total of 62.52 million CHZ to date.

  • Italian side Palermo FC will also launch its Fan Token later this month, bringing supporters closer to the club with access to experiences such as flying with the team and virtual meet and greets with players.

  • Chiliz CEO Alex Dreyfus went on FOX Business to discuss its cupping College Fan Tokens and their potential impact for increasing fan engagement. Chiliz announced in the Spring that the college programs for Maryland, LSU, Michigan State, Penn State and Texas A&M were on board.

  • Kayen Finance has completed its migration to V3, moving Fan Tokens into the same pool so liquidity providers can concentrate their capital within a set price range, which is designed to deepen liquidity and cause smaller price swings on swaps.
