Monthly Development

Highlighting the latest update from the Animecoin ecosystem.

What's happening: Azuki TCG has sold out the Set 1 booster boxes and card binders at Anime Expo, the largest anime convention in the United States.

Set 1 also appears on collect.anime.xyz, Animechain's digital collectible and gacha platform, which stocks its machines with graded Azuki slabs bought on the secondary market.

Why it matters: Animechain’s digital collectible and gacha platform, collect.anime.xyz, sources prizes from eBay, using revenue from Pokémon and One Piece trading card pack sales to buy graded Azuki slabs and load them into its machines.

That supply comes from retail. Cards reach shops, are opened, and sent for grading, which is what puts slabs on the resale market. Set 1 is the first set to go through that process, so the graded population is still forming and there is no price history on Azuki slabs yet.

However, the fact that the set sold out shows there is demand for these cards. Whether or not its collectors purchasing the cards for their own interest, or people who just want to resell the card, is up for debate, but it is an important indicator of secondary market demand.

The bigger picture: While the Azuki TCG operates entirely off-chain, its connection to Animechain is that collect.anime.xyz buys from the same secondary market the retail business feeds.

That makes collect.anime.xyz an important piece of the secondary market as the machines can only stock what is being traded in the real world.

ICYMI: Animechain Ecosystem Developments

  • Animecom launched a mobile app that features forums, chat, customizable avatars, and stickers. The stickers are NFTs minted on Animechain and assigned automatically to user accounts.

  • Collectr released its second monthly anime art piece on Animechain. The drop was conducted in a collaboration with Alchemix, and aims to extend Animechain's potential reach and collector base.

    • Last month, the art piece was Animecoin-themed and drew from an audience already familiar with the ecosystem. This one targets users with no prior exposure to the network.

  • Azuki Run Club used Animecoin to charge entry fees for its latest run challenge. Even though the event is held in person and settles nothing onchain, the token functions as payment. While the use case is small and narrow, it does serve to tie demand for Animecoin to activity rather than speculation.
