Sei Showcase
💨 What’s happening: Sei Labs has laid out the roadmap for its Giga upgrade, a phased overhaul targeting 5 gigagas of throughput, or roughly 200,000 transactions per second, and sub-400ms finality.
💨 Why it matters: The roadmap covers nine phases, of which we’ve previously covered three that are related to the Giga whitepaper.
Below, we will cover upgrades currently in development as well as those in the pipeline.
Ares Upgrade: This update will involve a complete rebuild of the mechanism that runs transactions in order to process them far faster.
Eidos Upgrade: A system for storing the network's data that removes a bottleneck capping how quickly Sei can record transactions. The goal is to have roughly ten times more headroom.
SIP-3: This upgrade will strip out older, unused code so that Sei can run on a system compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. This setup is designed to optimize for the speed the rest of the roadmap is chasing.
Autobahn: A new way for the network to agree on the order of transactions, letting many validators work at once instead of waiting in queues.
Sedna Upgrade: Introduces a privacy layer that keeps pending transactions hidden until they're finalized, protecting transactions from being front-run.
Hermes Upgrade: currently, Sei has not released further information regarding this phase.
💨 The bigger picture: These updates are designed to land in a deliberate order. Ares (execution) and Eidos (storage) come first because they can run on Sei's current network. The SIP-3 upgrade will clear out old code in between and simplify the system by sunsetting support for the Cosmos ecosystem.
Autobahn and Sedna, currently in the ideation phase, will serve as forward-looking privacy add-ons.
We will be monitoring how these upgrades progress, the timeline for when each will be launched on mainnet, and how they all work together to accomplish Sei’s broader speed goal.
